The Italian guests noted the importance of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway for Europe, emphasizing it was as important as the energy projects of Azerbaijan for Italy and other European countries. According to them, the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway will improve the European-Asian cargo transportation system in the 21st century and going to increase the freight turnover. During the conversation, prospects of the transported cargo from Trieste and Bari ports of Italy to the Mersin port of Turkey, and then through the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railroad to Iran and Central Asian countries as well as China were discussed. Furthermore, the prospects of cargo transportation along the proposed route were reviewed and its competitiveness was reported. Furthermore, taking advantage from Italian railways, the possibility of cargo transportation to France, Germany and Benelux countries was taken into consideration. The Italian delegation provided information on import / export operations and potential cargo transportation between European Union and Iran, Central Asia and China to the Azerbaijan Railways and declared their interest in collaboration. At the end of the meeting, a memorandum was signed between the parties regarding to results of the negotiation.

      Azerbaijan’s transit-transport opportunities were presented at the international forum “East-West Trade and Transit Corridor” which held at the Czech Ministry of Industry and Trade. The event, organized by the Azerbaijani embassy in the Czech Republic and the embassies of China, Kazakhstan, Georgia and Turkey take a part in the event as well as several number of state representatives and business circles of the Czech Republic was attended. The Forum aims to discuss ways to increase transit and cargo transportation to Europe via China through Central Asia and the Trans-Caspian region, as well as engage Czech companies in the Trans-Caspian international transport routes. Opening speeches were delivered by Czech Minister of Industry and Commerce Thomas Huner, accredited ambassadors of Azerbaijan, China, Kazakhstan, Georgia and Turkey, as well as representatives of state, private and academic circles from these countries. Representative of ADY Container LLC Rashad Majidov spoke at the forum and briefed the participants on infrastructure projects and institutional reforms in railway transportation in Azerbaijan. The potential of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway line, as well as the international transport corridors and routes to which Azerbaijan is a part, has been brought to the attention of the participants. During the forum, the representative of ADY Container LLC held several bilateral meetings. The meetings were held with representatives of the Ministry of Transport of the Czech Republic, representatives of the Czech Railways, “ÇD Kargo” and “ÇD Logistics”, and discussed possibilities of transportation of goods between the Czech Republic and Iran, Kazakhstan and China through Azerbaijan.

 

ADY Container LLC has started cooperation with Switzerland’s Hupac Intermodal in the field of transportation from Europe to Central Asia.

  • The Hupac Intermodal transport and logistics company will cooperate with the Azerbaijani Railways to link Europe, Azerbaijan, Iran, Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan.
  • Parties are planning to implement logistic services through a new intermodal terminal in Baku.
  • Thus, industrial groups from Germany, Benelux countries; Italy, Poland and Spain will be link to Azerbaijan, Iran, Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan.

 

 

The document was signed as part of an international conference held in Beijing, dedicated to the role of the Trans-Caspian East-West international trade and transport corridor in implementation of the One Belt and One Road Initiative.

The conference was organized by the embassies of Kazakhstan, Georgia and Turkey on the initiative of Azerbaijan and with the support of the Ministry of Commerce of China. It was aimed at promoting the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route.

Azerbaijan’s Economy Minister Shahin Mustafayev, Deputy Minister of Commerce of China Wang Shouwen, Turkish Deputy Economy Minister Fatih Metin, Deputy Minister of Investments and Development of Kazakhstan Roman Sklyar, Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia Giorgi Cherkezishvili, as well as head of Azerbaijan Railways CJSC Javid Gurbanov delivered speeches at the event.

Gurbanov presented information on the transport projects being implemented in Azerbaijan, the efficiency of the route and the advantages of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway.He also held a meeting with Azerbaijani entrepreneurs to discuss issues of rail transportation.

CJSC “Azerbaijan Railways” held a tripartite meeting with delegations headed by the board members of the Austrian company Rail Cargo Austria Eric Regter and Director General of Turkish Railways (TCDD) Veysi Kurt.

The parties were informed in a frank and friendly atmosphere by the Chairman of CJSC Azerbaijan Railways Javid Gurbanov about the transport and logistics potential of Azerbaijan, the Trans-Caspian international transport route, the North-South and South-West transport corridors, as well as the recently introduced the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railroad, which according to Javid Gurbanov will connect Asia with Europe.

Then a discussion was held on the development of cooperation.

As a result of the meeting, the representatives of Azerbaijan Railways, Rail Cargo Austria and Turkish Railways signed a Memorandum of Understanding.

The Memorandum covers the development of a competitive, high-speed, intermodal railway network in Europe, CIS and China.

 

 

ADY Konteyner company plans to double the share of railway container cargo transportation in the total volume of cargo transportation in Azerbaijan by the end of 2018, Rashad Majidov, commercial director of the company, said at a transport conference “Azerbaijan: Bridge to Eurasia” in Baku.

“In total, we plan to transport about 15,000 containers in 2018,” he said.

The commercial director said that the second train consisting of 19 containers, which was sent from Turkey’s Mersin province via the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars (BTK) railway, is currently crossing the Caspian Sea on a train ferry.

He also noted that in November, an agreement was reached to send a container train from Iran’s Astara to Vorsino station in Russia along the International North-South Transport Corridor once the construciton of the Iranian section of the railway is completed.

 

The two-day Silk Road Forum has kicked off in Tbilisi bringing together 1000 delegates from 50 countries, including Azerbaijan.

Azerbaijan`s delegation includes Minister of Transport, Communications and High Technologies Ramin Guluzade, Chairman of the Azerbaijan Railways CJSC Javid Gurbanov, Head of the Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping Company CJSC Rauf Veliyev.

The forum opened with a welcome speech by Prime Minister of Georgia Giorgi Kvirikashvili, who highlighted Georgia’s strategically important location on the crossroads of East and West and its role as a connecting link of cultures and economies. Kvirikashvili expressed his confidence that after the conference other countries will also be actively engaged in restoration and development of historical Silk Road.

The prime ministers of Ukraine and Moldova and the deputy prime minister of Slovenia also take part in the conference for the first time.

The forum aims to establish a platform for an annual high level meeting where interested parties can get together and explore opportunities, align visions and enhance bilateral partnerships in four main areas of cooperation: transport, energy, trade and business-to-business contacts.

The forum will feature addresses by distinguished keynote speakers and give business executives and policymakers an opportunity to share their views, experiences and expertise on how to reestablish the historic Silk Road to reinvigorate trade with Asia. The event will also focus on the implementation of two major regional oil and gas projects, as well as the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway project.

 

November 15, 2017, Baku, Azerbaijan, the General Meeting of the members of International Association” Trans-Caspian International Transport Route” (TITR) was held.

During the today’s General Meeting, the preliminary results of the Association’s activities for 2017 were considered, and the tariff rates along the TITR for 2018 were approved. In addition, the tariff rates for freight transportation were considered and agreed, taking into account the new Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway line for 2018.

The General Mmeeting approved the budget and plan of the Association’s activities for 2018.

By the decision of the General Meeting, “Port Kuryk” LLP (Kazakhstan) and Lianyungang Port Holdings Group (China) were admitted to the Association as new associate members.

Summarizing the results of 2017, the founders and members of the Association noted the positive dynamics in the development of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (Middle Corridor).

It is planned to hold future meetings on the North-South International Transport Corridor not only in the countries that are members of this route, but also in the countries interested in joining the corridor. Igbal Huseynov, Deputy Chairman of “Azerbaijan Railways” CJSC Management Board, told journalists.
According to him, question is about India and Scandinavian countries, emerging and destination point of freight via route: “One of the ideas put forward in informal meetings is to hold the next meeting in India. If experts from 4 countries support this idea in today’s meeting, the issue will be reflected in the final protocol”.
Regarding the volume of freight to be transported by this route, I. Huseynov noted that “Azerbaijan Railways” has already constructed railway to Iran’s Astara, from Azerbaijan’s Astara station to Astarachay, through the bridge over it: “Both stations have additional ways to accept and dispatch cargoes. It is planned to install 4 terminals at the stations, one of which will be constructed for containers, one for common cargo, one for oil products and one for grain products. Opening of the first terminal is expected in December of this year and the expected volume of cargo to next year is 1.5-2 mln tons”.
Notably, quadripartite (Azerbaijan, Russia, Belarus, Iran) meeting of the North-South International Transport Corridor Working Group on Development in the West has today started in Baku.
