History

The foundation of the railway in Azerbaijan was laid in 1878 and its construction was completed on January 20, 1880. It consisted of the Baku-Sabunchu-Surakhani railway, which was only 20 km long. Since that historical period, given the growing demand for rail freight, this area has developed and improved. Currently, the length of the main railways in the country makes up 2954.74 km.

Azerbaijan Railways, with a history of 140 years, has passed a great path of activity.

By the order of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, dated July 20, 2009, “Azerbaijan Railways” Closed Joint-Stock Company was established on the basis of Azerbaijan State Railway.

As a result of purposeful reforms and implementation of infrastructure projects in recent years, Azerbaijan has become a regional hub in international freight transport, our country’s transit opportunities have noticeably expanded, and Azerbaijan Railways have become one of the active players in international freight transport. Azerbaijan Railways CJSC has taken a number of necessary steps to effectively manage the growing volume of cargo.

ADY Container LLC, a subsidiary of Azerbaijan Railways CJSC, was established by the decision of the Chairman of Azerbaijan Railways CJSC, Javid Gurbanov, on July 5, 2017. The company was established to improve the quality and safety of rail freight, centralized and efficient management of container traffic. All container yards and railway container transportation in the Republic of Azerbaijan are managed by ADY Container LLC.
